vacancy Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in French Language

Do you have a passion for innovative teaching and helping students develop the linguistic and intercultural skills needed to succeed in a global world? At The University of Law, we’re looking for a Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in French Language to join our Modern Languages team.

A New Language Programme at the University of Law

The Language Programme is a new initiative within the Academic Development and Research department at the University of Law. Students at the University of Law can study a range of disciplines, including Business, Computer Science, Criminology, Law, Policing, and Psychology. The purpose of the Language Programme is to enrich the student experience by offering high-quality language and intercultural learning opportunities in Spanish, French and German alongside students’ degrees, either for credit or as additional non-credit modules. In addition, the non-credited provision will be available to staff, alumni, and members of the general public.

Aligned with the University of Law’s core values, the Language Programme plays a central role in supporting both employability and internationalisation across the institution. By developing learners’ linguistic confidence and cultural awareness, language lecturers enhance and help develop readiness to work across borders, to collaborate in diverse environments, and to engage with international communities and individuals. The inclusion of modern languages within an applied curriculum reflects our commitment to preparing graduates for success in a competitive, interconnected world.

This is a unique and truly exciting opportunity to join a new team of modern language professionals and help shape a programme that brings together current trends in language learning and the needs of UK Higher Education. If you are creative, digitally confident, and passionate about language pedagogy, this role offers the chance to design innovative courses and deliver an outstanding, inclusive learning experience.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a new team situated within a well-established and respected department.

As Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in French Language, you will design and deliver online French language teaching across extracurricular courses, credited undergraduate modules and self‑access learning units. You will create innovative learning materials, support students’ progress, and contribute to the development of an inclusive, learner‑centred programme.

                You are:

                • A collaborative and proactive educator with strong communication skills in English and French.
                • Experienced in teaching French to non‑native speakers and confident using online learning technologies.
                • Organised, reflective, and committed to delivering an excellent student experience.

As our Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in French Language, you will:

                • Design high‑quality online and in-person teaching and learning material aligned with the CEFR and teach French courses online.
                • Develop teaching and assessment materials for self‑access, extracurricular and credited modules.
                • Provide constructive feedback to support learner engagement and progression.
                • Contribute to course evaluation, quality enhancement and programme development.
                • Work closely with the Head of Modern Languages and other colleagues across the university to ensure a coherent and high‑quality learning experience.

We are looking for people who have:

                • Degree‑level education in languages (or equivalent professional experience).
                • French language proficiency at C1 level or above.
                • A successful track record of teaching French in higher education.
                • Experience in designing learning materials and confidence using VLEs and digital teaching tools.
                • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

                Benefits

On top of a competitive salary, we provide a generous annual leave entitlement of 35 days, and there’s a rewards package that includes:

                • Private Medical Scheme and Life Assurance
                • Contributory Pension Scheme
                • Training and Qualifications (including Course Sponsorship/Fee Discount)
                • Season Ticket Loans and Student Discounts

At The University of Law, you will work alongside other like-minded professionals who are passionate about driving innovation in higher education and delivering successful outcomes for our students.

                Our Approach

We are committed to ensuring our workforce is reflective of our diverse student population, striving to increase the representation of age, disability, gender identity and expression, religion, race, sex, sexual orientation, and socio-economic background of our employees.
